Speak with a calm voice
When a colleague needs emotional support, make sure you speak to them with a calm voice. Think of yourself as an emotional anchor: by being a stable presence, you help your colleague process their emotions.
This can be challenging if your colleague is stressed or angry. If your colleague speaks loudly and quickly, it is easy to start raising one's own voice as well. So, take a moment to consciously remind yourself to speak with a calm voice at the beginning of the interaction.
